Health, safety & site rules (all visits)
These points apply to every appointment, including EV charger installs.
Safe isolation
We will need to work on the consumer unit and may need the main fuse area accessible. Please save work and shut down sensitive electronics. Tell us about medical or life-safety equipment that cannot lose power without planning.
PPE & safety footwear
Our safety boots stay on for the duration — mandatory PPE. Over-shoe covers are available if you want extra protection for floors.
Commercial waste
Packaging and offcuts from containment may be commercial waste unless removal is quoted. We will bag materials for your disposal unless agreed otherwise.
Workspace prep
Clear routes from the consumer unit to the proposed charger location (including outside walls and any underfloor areas). Keep children and pets clear of ladders, rooflines, and the driveway work area.
Landlords & rented homes
Permission
Ensure landlord or managing agent approval is in place where required, and that we can access communal areas or meter cupboards if the cable route needs it.
Making the day easier
Internet
Many chargers need Wi-Fi for commissioning. Have your network name and password ready, and expect brief outages if we isolate circuits that feed your router.
EV charger — what to expect
Parking & access
Leave space on the drive or verge for our vehicle and materials. If the cable crosses a pavement, we follow safe routing and protection rules; local authority or DNO notices may apply in some cases — we will confirm if your job needs them.
Supply & consumer unit
We assess main fuse capacity, existing loads, and whether your board needs upgrading or load management (for example CT clamps). Work may extend over more than one visit if the supply authority must upgrade your fuse first.
Earthing & protection
PME (TN-C-S) supplies often need specific earth fault protection and sometimes external earth electrodes or O-PEN detection devices. The exact kit depends on your installation — see our technical guides for background.
Testing & handover
Expect insulation and RCD tests before energising the final circuit. We demonstrate safe use and leave you with certification aligned to BS 7671.
