The Dream Look

A doorbell that shows you who's there, records visitors, and sends alerts to your phone - whether you're at work or on holiday. Smart doorbells have become essential for many households. But should you go battery or hardwired? The answer affects reliability and installation.

Trade Secret

Hardwired is always more reliable - no battery to charge, no cold-weather dropouts. If you have an existing doorbell transformer, we can often use it (check voltage compatibility). If not, we fit a suitable transformer and run low-voltage cable to the unit. Battery units are quicker to install but need charging every few months - and in winter, battery life drops. For a permanent install, hardwire it. The small extra cost pays off in peace of mind.

The Mess Factor

Hardwiring means running cable from the transformer (usually near the consumer unit or under the stairs) to the front door. We'll chase or run in conduit - the route depends on your layout. Expect a few hours for a typical install. Battery units need no cabling - mount, connect to Wi-Fi, done - but you'll be climbing a ladder to charge it periodically.

Thanet Home Highlight

Smart doorbells are everywhere in Thanet - Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs. Coastal properties and holiday lets especially benefit from remote visibility. We've hardwired Ring, Nest, and other brands in period houses and new builds. Victorian hallways often have existing bell wire we can replace; where there's nothing, we run a clean install.
